Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports PBIS
What is PBIS?
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based, tiered framework for supporting students' behavioral, academic, social, emotional, and mental health. When implemented with fidelity, PBIS improves social emotional competence, academic success, and school climate.
PBIS includes the implementation of 4 core Tier 1 PBIS practices: (a) teaching school-wide expectations, (b) acknowledging expected behavior, (c) correcting errors, and (d) requesting assistance.
Here at Lone Mountain, we use these practices to explicitly teach the "SOAR" expectations for our students to follow in the classroom and around campus. The acronym SOAR stands for Safety, Ownership for your actions/words, Attitude, and Respect. These are behavior/character expectations that we talk about daily within the classrooms and around campus. Support is then offered to our students when they are demonstrating difficulty following expectations.
